AT&T plans to shift to natural-gas vans

AT&T has been committed to alternative fuel vehicles. The company has a plan (from the summer of 2009) to spend $565 million purchasing 15,000 alternative fuel vehicles.

In their initial part of this plan, the company converted about 600 Ford E-Series vans to run on compressed natural gas. In the process, the company is phasing out it's fleet of gas power vehicles in favor of this new breed of alternative energy vehicles.

Compressed gas vehicles create 20 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than traditional vehicles--similar to corn-based ethanol. The vehicles can also greatly improve fuel economy--by as much as 39-percent.
